Privacy Policy
Effective Date: March 19, 2026
1. About
PDF2Link ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and disclose your personal information when you use our Services.
Our Services include the PDF2Link web platform (pdf2link.com) for uploading, hosting, and sharing PDF documents via custom links.
2. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to personal information processed by us in connection with our Services, including our website and web application. It does not apply to third-party websites, services, or applications, even if they are accessible through our Services.
3. Personal Information We Collect
The personal information we collect depends on how you interact with our Services.
Information You Provide to Us
Account Information. When you create a PDF2Link account, we collect your name, email address, and password. If you authenticate through a third-party provider such as Google, we receive basic profile information from that provider (such as your name and email address).
Payment Information. We use Stripe to process payments. We do not receive or store your full payment card details. We may receive and store limited billing metadata associated with your payment (such as payment method type, last four digits, subscription status, and billing period). See Stripe's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle your payment information.
Uploaded Content. When you upload PDF files to PDF2Link, your files are stored on our servers (via third-party cloud storage providers) for the purpose of hosting and making them accessible via shareable links. Files remain stored for as long as your account is active and you choose to keep them, or until we remove them in accordance with our Terms of Service.
Document Metadata. We collect metadata you provide about your uploaded documents, including titles, custom URL slugs, and optional password protection settings.
Information Collected Automatically
Technical Data. When you use our Services, we may automatically collect certain information, including your IP address, browser type, device information, and user agent string.
Usage Data. We use analytics services to collect data about how you interact with our Services, such as feature usage, page views, and general interaction patterns. We also collect view counts and engagement metrics for hosted documents, which may be shared with the document owner.
Document Viewer Data. When someone views a PDF hosted on PDF2Link, we may collect the viewer's IP address, browser type, device information, and referral source. This information may be made available in aggregate or individual form to the document owner as part of our analytics features.
Cookies and Local Storage. We use cookies and similar technologies for session management (secure, HTTP-only authentication cookies), to remember your preferences, and for analytics purposes.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information for the following purposes:
To Provide the Services. We use your information to create and manage your account, authenticate your identity, store and serve your uploaded PDF files, generate shareable links, manage subscriptions, and deliver transactional communications such as verification codes and password resets.
To Improve the Services. We analyze usage patterns and platform performance to identify issues, optimize features, and improve reliability.
To Communicate With You. We use your contact information to send account-related notifications, service updates, and to respond to support inquiries.
To Enforce Our Policies. We use your information to detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security risks, and violations of our Terms of Service.
5. Disclosing Your Information to Third Parties
We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose personal information to the following categories of third parties:
Service Providers. We disclose personal information to service providers that assist us in operating the Services, including providers of: (i) cloud infrastructure and file storage; (ii) payment processing; (iii) database hosting; (iv) transactional email delivery; (v) analytics; and (vi) authentication services. These service providers are authorized to use your personal information only as necessary to provide services to us.
Document Viewers. When you share a PDF via PDF2Link, the content of that document is made publicly accessible (or accessible to those with the link and/or password, depending on your settings). PDF2Link is not responsible for how viewers use or redistribute the content you choose to share.
Legal and Compliance. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to: (i) comply with a legal obligation or valid legal process; (ii) protect and defend our rights or property; (iii) respond to lawful requests from public authorities; or (iv) prevent fraud or protect the safety of our users.
Business Transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change in ownership or control of your personal information.
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, provide our Services, and comply with our legal obligations.
- Uploaded PDF files are retained while your account is active and you choose to keep them. We reserve the right to delete files at any time in accordance with our Terms of Service.
- Account data is retained while your account is active and deleted upon account closure, subject to any legal retention requirements.
- Billing records are retained as required for accounting, tax, and legal compliance.
- Analytics data is retained in aggregated or pseudonymous form.
When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize it.
7. Security
We take steps to ensure that your information is treated securely, including encryption of data in transit, cryptographic hashing of passwords, and access controls that restrict data access to authorized users.
While we strive to protect your personal information, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
